For TRT's traditional documentary awards and festival, this year's theme is inspired by the centennial of the Republic and the cultural heritage of our geography, under the motto “Historical Traces, Inspiring Stories.”
The festival, which will take place at Istanbul Fisekhane from December 14-17, is packed with a full program ranging from film screenings to panels, on-screen encounters with famous personalities, and workshops. The award ceremony on Sunday night, December 17th, will reveal the winners in four documentary categories, along with a special 100th Anniversary Award for the year 2023.
998 Applications from 93 Countries
A total of 998 applications were received from 93 countries for the 14th TRT International Documentary Awards in four competition categories. Among the 32 projects that made it to the finals, the selected works will be announced during the award ceremony on December 17th. The ceremony will witness the presentation of a total of 12 awards and the special 100th Anniversary Award for this year.

In line with TRT's global broadcasting mission, the TRT International Documentary Awards aims to make stories that reflect human and universal values, focusing on humanity, nature, and cultural richness, visible. Reflecting the spirit of the time and building a bridge from the past to the future is a constant motivation of the festival. Stories centered on preserving human life and taking care of our common home, the world, are always in the spotlight at the festival.
The impact of the festival, realized with the vision of TRT and the support of the Ministry of Culture, expands every year. The participation of prestigious productions and names makes the light of the documentary world even brighter.

The TRT International Documentary Awards will take place this year under the theme "Historical Traces, Inspiring Stories", inspired by the centennial of the Republic. The chosen motto aims to evoke associations with the legacy of the past, the historical accumulation, the horizon drawn from today to tomorrow, and the shared stories in this journey.
Throughout the 4-day schedule of the TRT International Documentary Awards, which enriches the documentary climate in Turkey and around the world, a special selection of documentaries applying for the competition in award categories will meet the audience. Masterclass events with directors will take place, along with discussions and workshops on the present and future of documentary filmmaking.
The events will be open to everyone and will be held free of charge.
